Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring care of high-acuity patients and a compact or SD RN license.

• Work in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit with 10 L&D beds, 4 OB ED triage beds, and 4 antepartum rooms
• Patient population includes antepartum, laboring, postpartum, and high-risk OB cases, as well as infants
• Patient ratios:
  Antepartum 1:3, inactive labor 1:2, active labor 1:1, postpartum/couplet care 1:3 couplets
• 12-hour variable shifts, including both day and night shifts, required throughout contract
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• No call required
• Holiday coverage is required as needed
• Must be comfortable floating to postpartum/couplet care during contract
• Uses EPIC for charting; EPIC experience is required
• Scrub color is cobalt blue and is provided by the hospital
• Responsibilities include caring for a wide range of OB patients, including high-risk and low-intervention deliveries
• Must be able to rotate between L&D, antepartum, OB triage, and postpartum/couplet care as needed
• Support staff includes a unit secretary, scrub tech, charge nurse, VAT team, respiratory therapy, OB physician team, and anesthesia/CRNA available 24/7
• Four days of orientation with a preceptor are provided: three in L&D and one in postpartum
• Free parking available
• No local travelers allowed; candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Time off requests are subject to manager approval

• Active SD or compact RN license required
• Completion of a board-approved nursing education program
• Minimum 2 years recent L&D experience, preferably in a Level 3 or higher unit
• Must have BLS and NRP certifications
• Experience managing high-acuity labor patients, including preeclampsia, preterm labor, and antepartum patients under 35 weeks gestation
• Ability to care for couplets and comfort with routine L&D procedures (IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, blood administration, magnesium sulfate, insulin, circulating and recovery for C-sections)
• EPIC charting experience required
• Highly preferred:
  Level 2 nursery baby experience
• Preferred: ACLS, inpatient obstetrics certification, electronic fetal monitoring certification, or inpatient antepartum certification
