Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring strong cardiac recovery and telemetry skills, working 12-hour night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Work in a mixed acuity PCU handling Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and Med Surg patients

• 44-bed unit with typical patient ratios of 1:4, possibly 1:3 depending on acuity

• Care for cardiac, post-cath, post-surgical, CHF, dysrhythmia, stroke, and medical overflow patients

• Specialized care includes post cardiac/vascular surgery, post-cardiac cath, post-TAVR, post-EP studies, and pacemaker management

• Use of Epic EMR, Alaris pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing

• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and every other holiday required

• Floating may occur to General PCU, MS/Tele, or ICU within RN scope

• Daily responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, medication administration, and care of post-operative cardiac patients

• Support includes CNA, unassigned charge nurse, available phlebotomy, tele tech for monitoring, and 24/7 RT and hospitalist support

• Orientation includes 2 partial education days and three 12-hour unit shifts

• Scrub color is navy blue

• RNs may take up to 7 days off, with extensions required for a full week; no time off first three weeks of August annually

• Free parking is available

• Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler

Requirements

• Active RN license in South Dakota or compact state is required

• Minimum 1.5 years of general RN experience; first-time travelers accepted with 2+ years of experience

• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

• Completion of a board-approved nursing education program

• Proficiency with cardiac procedural recovery, MI pharmacology, titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and chest tube management

• Epic EMR experience is preferred; approval may be needed if not experienced

• Must live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
