American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric ICU position requiring at least 1.5 years PICU RN experience and an active SD or compact RN license.
Details- Work in a 15-bed Pediatric Unit including a 5-bed PICU
- Rotates between General Pediatrics and PICU patient populations ages 0-18, with occasional stable adult overflow patients
- PICU patients require critical or intensive care for conditions including respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious disease, endocrine/metabolic disorders, neurologic disease, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic disease
- General Peds patients present with respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgical needs (ENT, GI, urological, orthopedic, neurosurgery, trauma)
- Patient ratios are 1:5 on General Pediatrics and 1:1-2 in PICU
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- May float to NICU (30-bed, feeder/growers, 1:3 ratio) or Gen Peds (up to 1:5 ratio)
- May be placed on low census/on-call status
- Uses EPIC charting system and Omnicell
- Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, PALS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1.5 years of PICU RN experience required
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- Ability to perform physical assessments on patients ages 0 through adult
- Ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patients
- Proficient use of EPIC charting system
- Evaluate patient symptoms and vital signs, administer medications, and educate patients and families on plan of care
- Supported by CNAs (1:5 ratio), a shared charge nurse covering both units, Resource/Educator nurses, case management, social work, respiratory therapy, and hospitalist/APP support
- RNs perform their own phlebotomy and IV starts, with ultrasound available for difficult IVs
- Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation and 2 days of unit orientation with a preceptor
- Holiday coverage required for all holidays
- Time off requests must be pre-approved
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking available in a parking garage
- First-time travelers considered only if they have more than 2 years of experience
- Candidates must live outside a 100-mile radius to be eligible for travel assignment
- Facility has a traveler-friendly, supportive culture and frequently renews travelers
