The Pennington County Sheriff's Office is seeking a full-time Security/Transport Officer who brings law enforcement knowledge and experience to provide security and client transport at the Care Campus.
The ideal applicant will have experience working with those under the influence of drugs or alcohol or in a mental health crisis, must be willing to engage in conflict resolution, and work well as a member of a team focus on improving the quality of life in our community.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, afternoon shift
- Providing complex security at the Care Campus and Pivot Point building to include the enforcement of policy regarding restricted behaviors and weapons.
- Conducting routine building checks daily (internally and externally), operating x-ray equipment and handheld metal detection devices, monitoring security cameras and other tasks related to keeping weapons or destructive devices from entering the facilities.
- Being alert and prepared to respond with force, in an emergent situation, and to aid others as outlined in policy.
- Transporting clients as requested.
- Relaying pertinent court information to the appropriate facility.
- Loading and unloading client property.
- Assisting the public with inquiries.
- Following policy and procedure.
- Fostering positive work relations with other Law Enforcement agencies.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required.
- Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience Required- HS Diploma or GED required.
- Preference given to those with prior armed security and/or law enforcement experience.
- Possession of a valid South Dakota Driver’s License within 90 days of moving to South Dakota.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone, over the radio, and in person.
- Ability to drive, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to climb stairs, sometimes multiple flights per day.
- Must be able to physically restrain unruly subjects and respond using appropriate force.
- This position will be exposed to varying smells, temperature changes and aggressive physical and verbal responses.
- Must be able to bend, stoop and twist.
