POSITION SUMMARY

Carpenter helpers are required to perform a variety of tasks including erecting and setting forms for vertical and horizontal concrete structures and site work, per specifications and drawings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square…etc. to perform tasks accurately.
  • Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
  • Assist in setting and placement of forms to proper elevations and location; prepare the base and install proper reinforcing.
  • Experience and/or exposure in setting and erecting forms using a wide variety of materials and forming systems for vertical and horizontal concrete forming.
  • Assist in the marking, cutting, and assembly lines on materials; shape materials to prescribed measurements and assemble, fasten with nails, dowel pins or glue.
  • Able to assist in general carpentry tasks such as, but not limited to: build and install barricades, decks, shelves, and any other miscellaneous site needs and duties that may come up.
  • Be able to assist in placing/tying rebar.
  • Be able to assist in placing and finishing concrete.
  • Assist in the following: disassemble, remove, and clean form materials.
  • Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision. Must have the ability to take direction from a higher‑skilled worker or foreman.
  • Must have basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
  • Support project with other tasks as directed by supervision.
  • Communicate with foreman regarding any problems arising, materials required, or any hazards noted.
  • Ability to work different shifts and overtime as required.
  • Work under production schedule pressure.
  • Attain set standards of accuracy.
  • Be able to perform duties in a safe manner.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 2‑3 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a carpenter helper role.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Be knowledgeable of MIC health and safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • When on‑site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Add and subtract two‑digit numbers, multiply and divide with tens and hundreds and ability to perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume.
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
