Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing global company in the medical devices industry! Under the general supervision of an EHS management representative, this role is responsible for supporting the day‑to‑day environmental, health, and safety programs for the site. The primary focus is carrying out the Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) as part of the organization’s loss‑prevention strategy to reduce workplace injuries, accidents, and compliance issues while partnering with all levels of the organization to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
This is a regular business‑hours position. 8 am to 5 pm. There may be a need for a slightly earlier start time such as 7 am due to manufacturing.
Responsibilities- Support management in communicating, promoting, and enforcing safety protocols outlined in IIPP and site safety programs.
- Serve as a safety champion and advisor on OSHA, EPA, and internal safety and environmental requirements.
- Support site safety reporting, metrics, Gemba walks, and initiatives to elevate safety culture.
- Participate in investigations of incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental non‑compliances; help identify corrective actions.
- Conduct routine EHS inspections for regulatory compliance (fire, air, hazardous waste, biological waste, wastewater, etc.).
- Work with employees on Job Safety Protocols, risk reduction strategies, and training needs.
- Oversee hazardous and biohazardous waste management, outside vendors, supplies, pickups, and regulatory documentation.
- Lead Safety Committee meetings and drive related projects.
- Coordinate outside service providers for first‑aid supplies, emergency equipment inspections, and waste management support.
- Provide administrative support including supply ordering, EHS recordkeeping, permit and license deliverables, training tracking, medical surveillance updates, compliance calendar management, workers’ comp support, and pandemic reporting.
- Create, update, and deliver site safety training.
- Collect and input data related to utilities, waste generation, chemical inventories, and support reporting to internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
- Serve on the Emergency Response Team for medical, chemical, biological, and physical incidents, including pandemic response protocols.
- Recommend disciplinary action for unsafe behaviors and exercise authority to stop work in hazardous situations.
- Ensure all duties comply with established business policies.
- Associate degree in Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent required.
- Experience in environmental health and safety field, preferably in medical, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
- Two to four years of related experience required.
- Familiar with applicable federal, state, and local laws pertaining to EH&S matters.
- Working knowledge with Microsoft Office suite programs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Able to read, comprehend, evaluate, and communicate using hard‑copy and digital media.
- Demonstrates commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of the organization’s Quality Management System per ISO, FDA, and other quality and regulatory agencies.
$38.00/hr – $42.00/hr
