JOB PURPOSE
The Engineering Lead is accountable for establishing, enforcing, and continuously improving engineering governance, standards, and delivery discipline across SAP and non-SAP teams. The role focuses on bringing structure, control, and rigour to engineering practices, ensuring all development activities are performed in a consistent, auditable, and high-quality manner in line with EGA standards.
Development projects in the EGA consist mostly of a very wide suite of SAP solutions, and also include other solutions like , java, IBM File Net, mobile solutions, web development and other tools.
Whilst the Lead must have good experience of SAP foundations, they must also have experience in managing other solutions.
The Engineering Lead operates as an independent control function within the Engineering Department, responsible for enforcing compliance with defined engineering processes and standards. The role does not act as a solution architect or delivery executor, but ensures disciplined execution through governance, assurance, and structured oversight.
The role requires deep expertise in organizational methodologies, including project planning and management, reporting, analytics and both Waterfall and Agile styles of management.
Educational and Professional Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems is required.
- Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Digital Government, Technology Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Professional certifications in project management and SAP solutions are an advantage though not required.
- 15 years at least of experience managing SAP activities and projects.
- 5 years at least of experience managing non-SAP applications and solutions.
- 5 years at least of managing groups of over 50 people and at least 5 different teams.
- Proven experience in large scale SAP solutions.
- Strong foundational understanding of SAP and non-SAP platforms, sufficient to govern, challenge, and validate engineering approaches (not required to design solutions)
- Knowledge of current and future non-SAP solutions common to the region (such as Azure, Salesforce, File Net, Word Press and mobile solution).
- Demonstrated experience leading complex interdisciplinary projects.
- Experience working within or alongside a government digital transformation program, with understanding of how government departments operate, plan, and make decisions.
- Familiarity with IT service delivery and digital projects.
- Experience establishing governance frameworks, engineering standards, or audit / assurance functions
- Experience in regulated or structured environments where process discipline and compliance are critical
