Hours of Work

Portage County Treasurer’s office standard hours of operations are M-F, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Work may need to be performed outside of these hours as assigned. Upon placement, not to exceed thirty (28) hours per week without the prior approval of the Portage County Treasurer or Designee.

This entry level position serves to provide basic & routine services to taxpayers.

Successful completion of an associate degree in a related field and education, training and/or a minimum of three years of experience in one or more of the following areas.

• real estate sales
• real estate transactions
• real estate title or legal
• delinquent collections
• cash management
• cashier duties
• banking

• Demonstrates knowledge in internet research skills
• Demonstrated customer service skills, including ability to maintain professionalism
• Demonstrates organizational skills
• Demonstrates knowledge of professional writing standards
• Demonstrates skills in using Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
• Demonstrates ability to work productively in a team or as a group
• Demonstrates knowledge ability to multi-task in a fast pace environment
• Demonstrates knowledge of the basic understanding of real estate transactions
• Demonstrates knowledge ability in data entry skills
• Demonstrates knowledge ability to work accurately and repetitively

• Demonstrates ability to assist Portage County taxpayers with basic real estate questions, in-person and over the phone
• Demonstrates ability to provide an explanation of penalty and interest charges on delinquent taxes to Portage County taxpayers
• Demonstrates ability to assist various banks, mortgage companies and tax services with questions, in person and over the phone
• Demonstrates ability to calculate and provide the correct pay off amounts to mortgage companies, banks and title companies
• Demonstrates ability to assist the general public, attorneys, realtors etc. in locating documents related to taxes and this Office
• Demonstrates ability to make referrals to other departments of this Office as needed
• Demonstrates ability to open and process mail in a timely and organized manner
• Ability to assist the general public, attorneys, realtors etc. in locating documents related to taxes and this Office
• Other related duties as assigned

• Demonstrates knowledge of basic accounting procedures and auditing principles
• Demonstrates ability to balance drawer
• Demonstrates ability to calculate change and manage a cash drawer
• Demonstrates understanding of accounting procedures and auditing principles applicable to the Treasurer’s office
• Assist with opening mail
• Ability to assist the general public, attorneys, realtors etc. in locating documents related to taxes and this Office
• Other related duties as assigned

• Physical Requirements:
  
  Incumbent performs sedentary work that may require lifting up to fifteen (15) pounds occasionally. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Physical Activity:
  Incumbent performs the following physical activities: talking, hearing, driving, sitting and repetitive motions.
• Visual Activity:
  Incumbent performs work where the seeing job is close to the eyes.
