CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT-ADULT MEDICINE
This position is vital in the health care delivery system. This is traditionally the patient's first clinical point of contact, so building patient relationships, managing patient care, managing patient information, team communication, and demonstrating conduct and activities using patient-centered medical home principles, policies, and procedures is critical. Supports the vision and mission of the Clinic at all times.
The CMA will conduct pre-planning and prep patient charts (entering orders needed), record patient data (e.g., vitals, screenings), perform medication reconciliation, administer medication as directed by provider (oral, subcutaneously, or intramuscular), administer vaccinations, perform procedures (EKG, breathing treatments, ear lavage, etc.), and educate patients. The CMA may have to float to a different department if needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Patient relationship: greet and welcome patients pleasantly, culturally and linguistically appropriately; answer questions; ensure patients understand communications; communicate issues to provider; reinforce appointment importance; ask required questions for assessment.
- Management of patient care: prepare patients for examination and treatment; take history and vitals; prepare exam rooms; give injections; assist with refills; review medications per protocols; initiate notes; assist providers; collect and process specimens; assist with scheduling tests.
- Managing patient information: document history and vitals; pre-visit chart reviews; review chart under provider direction and place results; list anticipated needs; ensure records timely and current; adhere to HIPAA; communicate patient information.
- Team communication: participate in team huddles; meet with team to review provider schedule; help orient new employees; collaborate with unit team and clinic personnel; communicate patient needs and population management.
- Demonstration of safe and professional conduct: maintain friendly environment; respond to emergencies; refrain from texting during duty; refrain from informal communication; attend performance improvement; attend work per schedule; submit documentation timely; maintain professional appearance.
