Overview
We are seeking a Family & Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Physician Assistant to join the Recovery Village Kansas City team. This is an in‑person position in our new mental health unit, where you will help provide dual‑diagnosis treatment. Advanced Recovery Systems is a physician‑led behavioral‑healthcare company dedicated to evidence‑based medicine for addiction and mental health conditions. We partner with health‑care providers, organizations, and individuals to connect those in need to life‑saving addiction treatment and mental‑health support that repairs lives, families, and communities.
ResponsibilitiesThe Family and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides medical services and patient care to patients admitted to ARS facilities throughout the continuum of care. The practitioner supports and follows facility policies, state and federal regulations, and works effectively with the leadership team to achieve facility success.
Job Duties- Provides excellent medical care aligned with the ARS philosophy outlined by the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director, including establishing rapport, gathering data, evaluating readiness for treatment, and applying accepted criteria for diagnosing substance use disorders.
- Screen for co‑occurring mental health issues.
- Knowledge of medications, assessment for medication complications, detoxification protocols, and prescribing medications in general.
- Screen for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) – psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, withdrawal symptoms.
- Screen for danger to self or others using the Columbia Suicide Screening Rating Scale (CSSRS) and analyze data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities.
- Screen for pain and understand pain management strategies, including pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic approaches, reflecting individualized judgment and risk assessments.
- Demonstrate proficiency using the electronic health record with all required documentation and ensure compliance with company policies, state regulation, Joint Commission standards, and Medical Needs Criteria. Record documents include:
- Psychiatric Evaluation
- Physical Examinations
- Medical Progress Notes
- Medical Discharge Summaries
- Medication and ancillary orders
- Understanding ASAM criteria and Medical Needs Criteria to document decision making and treatment planning.
- On‑call responsibilities: provide contact and backup numbers, respond and be available when assigned.
- Participation in continuing professional development.
- Adherence to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct.
- Develop cost‑effective methods to provide medically necessary therapeutic services.
- Assist in formulating and supporting the highest standards of patient care.
- Supervise all levels of care changes and provider peer reviews when required.
- Provide supervision/support to Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and students as required.
- Understand and abide by all safety/risk, infection control and other guidelines as required.
- For non‑exempt employees, clock into ADP at designated times.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

- Graduated from an accredited Nursing Master’s Program with a Family Nurse Practitioner or higher.
- Experience in addiction medicine and behavioral health; familiarity with ASAM/ASAM Criteria and related standards; strong communication skills.
- Licensed Nurse with Master’s Degree or higher to practice medicine:
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate state, as applicable. - DEA to prescribe controlled medications in the state(s) of work; SAMHSA/DEA Buprenorphine waiver preferred at time of hire and to be obtained within 30 days of hire; may need a protocol agreement with the NP and Medical Director.
