Overview

This role will provide a comprehensive professional inspection service in respect of the main contractor's works across this high‑security site.

This job offers real variety and involvement in a wide range of construction packages; your day‑to‑day work includes inspecting areas that are about to be completed.

To ensure the areas meet the specifications and the works comply with the highest quality standards, you will open live areas and, once identified as passing, hand them over with the team.

• Inspection, written specification and ordering of works in line with the specification.
• Supervision of small works with internal and external contractors.
• Ensure that works are carried out to the right specification with the right materials and fit for purpose.
• Supervise work on site, issuing instructions that could have financial consequences and stopping works if necessary.
• Write general specifications for contracted work.
• Collate any issues and concerns in relation to work on site and provide written reports for Project Managers / Supervising Officers.

You should be able to demonstrate a range of skills required for QA / inspection of building works, covering the professional, contract and administrative aspects of day‑to‑day work. A good communicator with a proven background in construction, project management ideally on high‑security MOD or MOJ projects, is required.

• Good understanding of building pathology.
• Working knowledge of all forms of construction, including M&E services.
• Practical understanding of standard forms of contract and how they are to be applied during a construction project.
• Working knowledge of contract management and administration.
• ONC/OND or higher in building construction or a time‑served trades background.

Working with the client‑side team you will ensure the main contractor works across the site meet the required standards. Using your considerable construction knowledge, you will prepare reports on any areas that have not passed, outlining what is required to bring them up to quality and pass for the client.

This is a one‑of‑a‑generation project and would suit an experienced ex‑PM / Contracts Manager, M&E Manager / Building Services Manager or Senior Site Manager who thrives on high‑quality standards and does not want to be on just any site. The whole team will work in the same direction to get the job done right the first time.

Commutable to the Reading area; up to date SMSTS, CSCS, and 1st aid credentials; and a solid construction background.
