Do you want to earn a degree whilst working for the biggest ice cream company in the world? If so, read on!

We Are The Magnum Ice Cream Company

As the world's largest ice cream company, The Magnum Ice Cream Company (TMICC) leads the frozen refreshment industry. We are comprised of 19,000 expert ice cream professionals and iconic brands, like Magnum, Wall’s and Ben & Jerry’s that are enjoyed in 76 countries.

When Thomas Wall declared “We take pleasure seriously” in 1922, he set a standard that has defined our business ever since. Now, we continue to build on that promise, crafting extraordinary experiences that turn ordinary moments into lasting memories. We turn the ordinary into the extraordinary through innovation and imaginative minds to design unique and innovative ice cream products that make life taste better.

You will be based on the Colworth Science Park in Bedfordshire, the home of the Global Research, Design & Innovation (RD&I) Centre for TMICC.

What is the job?

Life tastes better with ice cream and that begins in RD&I. If you have a passion for food and science and want to develop into your best self while being part of a global organisation that can take you in any direction, then this is for you. In RD&I you'll discover what consumers want and develop the technology to make our innovations come to life.

Our RD&I apprentices follow a structured programme that allows you to put your science education and passion into practice while getting a degree.

What do we look for?

As an RD&I degree apprentice, we look for a passion for food and science: discovering and learning new things, experimenting and creating.

  • Verbal and written communication skills:
As an apprentice you may be required to write reports, emails or give presentations.
  • Problem solving skills:
Showing the ability to analyse situations, think critically, and propose possible solutions are key strengths in the RD&I environment.
  • Collaboration skills:
As a global RD&I centre we often work in collaboration with our brand and marketing teams and across regions of the globe. Being able to collaborate across regions is vital.
  • Time management skills:
You must be able to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and show initiative without needing constant supervision.
  • Adaptability and flexibility: A willingness to learn new things is key as the world of food research and development is always evolving.

Above all, have a passion for food and an enthusiasm for learning.

What could your day-to-day look like?

Our apprentices follow a structured and stimulating academic programme to achieve a BSc Honours degree in Foods Science & Technology aligned to the Foods Technical Professional degree apprentice standard, as well as working on real projects with world-renowned scientists to deliver unique and innovative Ice Cream experiences.

Over 5 years you will study for a BSc while experiencing working in different aspects of RD&I, whether it is in the Experience Design and Innovation team to develop new Magnum or Cornetto ice cream, within the Ingredients and Formulation group designing and utilising new technologies, or as part of the Ben and Jerry’s brand team developing new and exciting pleasure products.

What

support do we offer?

You will be allocated a buddy from our existing apprentices, who will support you during your first year with us. We have a vibrant and supportive apprentice community at our site, and they arrange socials and charity events for you to get involved in.
