We are looking to appoint a substantive Consultant Anaesthetist (10PA) with an interest in Trauma and Regional Anaesthesia to support increasing demand, develop patient pathways and work collaboratively with our Trauma team on service development. Our department has a reputation for high anaesthetic standards and training, has recently been awarded Royal College of Anaesthetists ACSA accreditation and is working toward University Department status.
Simulation date: 30 January 2026. Interview date: 17 February 2026.
- Provide anaesthesia, pre‑operative assessment, post‑operative visits, administration, teaching and audit.
- Work in multidisciplinary teams providing high quality care to patients and collaborate with colleagues for advisory and consultation services.
- Participate actively in clinical governance, teaching and management activities of the department.
- Participate in meetings and business planning for the anaesthesia service.
Essential
- Full registration with the GMC / eligible for registration.
- FRCA or equivalent qualification.
- Within 6 months of CCT in Anaesthesia at interview date.
- Membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetists of the United Kingdom or equivalent.
- Current Advanced Life Support training.
- Fully trained in Anaesthesia – level of training equivalent to that required to obtain a CCT in Anaesthesia in the UK.
- Excellent clinical knowledge of relevant anaesthesia practice and patient care.
- Experience in service planning and development for anaesthesia in Interventional Radiology.
- Ability to work within clinical governance guidelines.
- Evidence of participation in audit and quality improvement projects.
- Good IT skills with use of patient and hospital databases.
- Evidence of providing good teaching and supervision to trainees.
- Contributions to improving patient experience including patient‑centred service and user involvement.

Desirable
- Higher degree or other relevant qualifications related to anaesthetic practice.
- Higher or advanced training in a desirable subspecialty.
- Understanding of NHS management structures.
- Previous involvement in clinical leadership roles.
- Evidence of personal involvement in research.
- Educational qualification (if not already listed).
