Senior Shoulder Surgery Fellow
Job Summary
Senior Shoulder Fellow – fixed term 6‑12 month post (February 2027 start) at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will support the current delivery of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Shoulder Service, and contribute to its development. The role involves providing specialist care, raising departmental profiles through teaching and education, and supporting the Trust’s aim to become a leader in Orthopaedic management.
MainDuties
Clinical duties: two outpatient clinics per week, one formal ward round, three to four operating sessions, participation in a fracture clinic weekly. On‑call emergency duty on a 24‑hour partial shift rota with other Specialist Registrars and Staff Grades. Attend daily 7:45 am meeting to discuss trauma management. Contribute to junior staff teaching. Expected to be computer literate. Must hold FRCS (Orth) or equivalent and be post‑CCT or close to CCT accreditation.
Research: actively participate in, initiate and continue research projects (prospective or retrospective), complete and publish results. Time and funds may be available for research projects.
Clinical exposure: high volume elective shoulder and elbow cases, complex arthroscopy, primary/revision arthroplasty procedures, dedicated upper limb trauma list each week, and opportunities to treat general trauma cases on the on‑call system.

Person Specification EssentialQualifications:
- Full registration with GMC
- FRCS
- Demonstration of specialist training in Orthopaedic surgery
Qualifications:
- Qualification/Experience in Upper Limb Surgery
Experience:
- Experience in Surgery at senior SpR level
- Ability to offer clinical opinion on a range of problems in upper limb conditions
- Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients with upper limb conditions
Experience:
- Research with higher degree ideally in the field of Orthopaedic surgery
