About This RoleWe are seeking a skilled and compassionate Resource Base Teacher to join our team at River Academy. The successful candidate will teach within the MLD resource base, supporting students with additional needs to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Working closely with the SENCo, Resource Base Lead and a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality teaching, track and monitor progress and contribute to the ongoing development of inclusive provision across the school.
This role may be particularly suitable for a primary-trained teacher with experience or interest in SEND. River Academy opened in September 2024 with 180 students and seven students in its resource base. From September 2026, student numbers will increase again as the school welcomes its next cohort of Year 7 students. The school is currently oversubscribed, with waiting lists in all year groups, and expects continued high demand for September 2026.
You will join a strong and committed school team, contributing to the delivery of clear routines and the setting of expectations in line with the River Way. River Academy has a strong focus on calm, purposeful learning environments. Classrooms are quiet, corridors are calm, and systems are designed to reduce workload so teachers can focus on their teaching craft. Tutor time is carefully structured and includes reading, assemblies and settling activities to support learning throughout the day.
Students are expected to demonstrate good manners, strong oracy skills, and high standards of personal and academic presentation. Reflecting this focus on consistency and high expectations, River Academy is ranked in the highest decile across all DfE attendance measures, and Sparx homework completion rates consistently exceed 98%.
- Deliver high-quality teaching to students with moderate learning difficulties within the resource base (The Bridge) and, where appropriate, in mainstream settings.
- Plan engaging lessons and develop future curriculum pathways tailored to individual student needs.
- Track, monitor and review student progress, maintaining accurate and detailed records to inform planning.
- Produce written reports for annual reviews and other statutory processes, incorporating input from other professionals.
- Build strong partnerships with parents/carers, external professionals and services.
- Support the Resource Base Lead in reviewing data and evaluating the effectiveness of provision.
- Deputise for the Resource Base Lead as required.
- Keep up to date with current research and best practice relating to MLD and inclusive education, sharing learning with colleagues.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and Trust.
You will be a dedicated and reflective teacher with a strong commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing.
You Will Have- A good honours degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- The ability to motivate and inspire students using a range of teaching strategies.
- Strong emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills with students, families and professionals.
- Experience of, or a strong interest in, supporting students with MLD or additional needs.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team using a family‑centred approach.
- The resilience to remain calm in challenging situations and resolve issues sensitively.
- Flexibility to support the evolving needs of a growing school.
- A willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school and Trust.
