Volunteers needed to support local primary children with reading

Number of Volunteers required: 10

Schoolreaders volunteers are matched with a local primary school where they listen to children read one‑to‑one. By giving just a little time each week, volunteers help children build their reading and comprehension skills — and help them discover a love of books.

With only 1 in 3 children currently saying they read for pleasure in their free time, volunteers are supporting schools at a truly important moment.

• Visit a local primary school for 1–2 hours each week
• Attend at the same time each week, during the school day and term time only
• Listen to children read individually
• Support children as they practise reading and understanding texts
• Help encourage a positive attitude toward reading

• Commit to volunteering weekly for at least a year (Holidays and appointments are absolutely fine during this period.)
• Be over 18
• Have good written and spoken English
• Complete a DBS check — free of charge to you
• Be willing to travel to a school you are happy to reach (

No previous experience or specific skills are required.

Schoolreaders volunteers help children gain confidence, improve essential reading skills, and enjoy books more — all through simple one‑to‑one support.
