A founding member of the Palladian Academy Trust, Oldfield Park Junior School (OPJS) is a popular eight class community school that serves Oldfield Park and the surrounding suburbs of Bath. OPJS was formed in 1893, deemed as ‘Good’ in its last OFSTED inspection (February 2025) and currently has 249 children on roll.

Are you passionate about inspiring a love of reading in children? Do you have the creativity and organisation to develop a vibrant, engaging library space at the heart of a busy junior school?

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Librarian and Reading Intervention Lead to join our team and play a key role in promoting reading, supporting learning, and nurturing curiosity in our pupils.

You will be responsible for leading and developing our school library as a welcoming, inclusive, and well-resourced environment that inspires a lifelong love of reading.

• Manage the day-to-day running of the school library, ensuring it is organised, attractive, and purposeful.
• Maintain and develop library stock, ensuring it is engaging, diverse, and appropriate for our pupils.
• Promote reading for pleasure through displays, events, and initiatives.
• Lead reading clubs and lunchtime sessions to engage pupils.
• Support children in selecting books and developing independence and confidence as readers.
• Work closely with teaching staff to support curriculum topics and whole-school priorities.
• Help create a calm, inclusive space where all children feel inspired and supported.
• Work with small groups of children and lead whole class library session.
• Support Pupil Premium children to encourage the love of reading and to narrow the attainment gap.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a genuine passion for children’s literature and reading.
• Is organised, proactive, and able to manage their own workload.
• Enjoys working with children and building positive relationships.
• Is creative, with ideas to promote reading and engage all learners.
• Is committed to inclusion and supporting all pupils to succeed.
• Has strong communication skills and enjoys working as part of a team.
• Previous experience in a library or school setting is desirable, but not essential.
