Are you an inspirational English teacher with a passion for literacy and a commitment to improving life chances for vulnerable young people?

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of English and Reading Lead to join our dedicated team from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious practitioner to combine excellent classroom teaching with strategic leadership of reading, phonics and literacy interventions across our Pupil Referral Unit.

Our school provides education and support for pupils with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other barriers to learning. Many of our pupils have experienced disruption to their education and require highly skilled professionals who can build positive relationships, maintain high expectations and help them achieve success.

As Reading Lead, you will drive improvements in reading attainment, oversee the implementation of phonics and reading interventions, support colleagues in developing literacy across the curriculum and ensure that all pupils are equipped with the literacy skills needed to succeed.

We are looking for someone who:
  • Is an excellent classroom practitioner with experience of teaching English.
  • Has a strong understanding of reading development, phonics and literacy interventions.
  • Can be flexible to deliver an additional subject (e.g. humanities/PSHE).
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
  • Demonstrates empathy, patience and resilience when working with challenging behaviour.
  • Is committed to engaging hard‑to‑reach families and external agencies.
  • Shares our belief that every pupil can achieve and thrive.
In return, we offer:
  • A supportive and committed staff team.
  • Opportunities for professional development and leadership.
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable young people.
  • A positive and rewarding working environment where relationships are at the heart of everything we do.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.
