Reading College is seeking an experienced and dedicated Student Welfare Coordinator to join our Lifeskills team. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in supporting students receiving Additional Learning Support, including those within our 16-19 programmes.
The successful candidate will help ensure student retention, wellbeing, and achievement by providing high-quality pastoral support. You will work closely with learners with High Needs and other care requirements, ensuring appropriate support strategies are in place to enable them to thrive academically and personally.
This role requires a compassionate, proactive professional who can create a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment where students feel confident accessing support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide pastoral and welfare support to students in the Lifeskills Faculty
- Promote learner retention, achievement, and progression
- Deliver 1:1 and group wellbeing sessions
- Support smooth transitions into Lifeskills programmes
- Work collaboratively with faculty teams and wider College services
- Contribute to multi-agency support for learners
- Develop creative strategies to meet diverse learning needs
- Ensure safeguarding and student welfare at all times
This is a fixed-term, full-time role working 37 hours per week during term-time (FTE 0.88) based at our Reading College. This contract ends in July 2027.
What you need to be successful as a Student Welfare Coordinator at Activate LearningA minimum GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above is essential, along with an understanding of the need for a student‑centred approach and ability to offer varying support strategies to cover diverse learning needs. Proven experience in a welfare or social care role and safeguarding knowledge/experience. You will have excellent understanding/experience working with a range of learners including MLD, PMLD and SEMH.
You will also have experience of multi‑agency working.
