Art Technician – Secondary School – Reading

Start Date: As soon as possible

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: Paid to scale

A successful Secondary School in Reading is looking to appoint a creative and organised Art Technician to join its thriving Art department. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for the creative arts who enjoys supporting practical learning and helping students develop their artistic talents within a well‑resourced department.

Working closely with the Head of Art and teaching staff, you will prepare materials, maintain specialist equipment and ensure the department is fully organised for daily practical lessons. You will contribute significantly to creating an inspiring environment where students can develop creativity and technical skills.

Art Department

The Art Department encourages students to develop confidence and creativity through a wide range of artistic disciplines and practical experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing materials and equipment for practical Art lessons.
  • Maintaining Art studios and preparation areas.
  • Organising departmental stock and specialist resources.
  • Preparing demonstration materials for teachers.
  • Supporting practical classroom activities.
  • Displaying students' artwork throughout the school.
  • Assisting with GCSE Art coursework preparation.
  • Supporting exhibitions, open evenings and community events.
  • Maintaining inventories of equipment and materials.
  • Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Cleaning and maintaining specialist equipment.
  • Preparing paints, clay and printing materials.
  • Supporting extracurricular Art clubs.
  • Keeping storage areas organised and fully stocked.
  • Assisting with departmental administration where required.
Requirements
  • Previous Art Technician or creative workshop experience is desirable.
  • Good practical artistic skills.
  • Excellent organisational abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of health and safety within practical classrooms.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Positive and proactive attitude.
  • Commitment to safeguarding.
