About the Role

Are you passionate about Science and enthusiastic about inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, doctors and innovators? Connex Education is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Science Teachers to work in secondary schools across Reading and the surrounding areas from September 2026. We have a range of flexible long-term, short-term and day-to-day opportunities available, with the flexibility to work 2–5 days per week depending on your availability and career goals.

Whether you’re a qualified Science Teacher, Early Career Teacher (ECT), trainee teacher nearing completion of your training, or an experienced unqualified teacher, we’d love to hear from you. Teaching across subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Physics, you’ll have the opportunity to inspire students through engaging lessons, develop their scientific understanding and encourage curiosity about the world around them. Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging and challenging Science lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Teach Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics depending on your subject specialism and experience.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students can succeed.
  • Inspire students to develop curiosity, problem-solving skills and a passion for Science.
  • Use a range of teaching strategies to engage students with different abilities and learning needs.
  • Assess, monitor and provide constructive feedback to support student progress.
  • Prepare students effectively for assessments and examinations where required.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and create a safe and purposeful learning environment.
  • Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.

Person Specification
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is preferred, but we also welcome applications from:
  • Unqualified teachers with strong secondary Science teaching experience.
  • Trainee teachers due to achieve QTS.
  • Graduates with a degree in a Science-related subject who have relevant classroom or teaching experience and are looking to begin their teaching career.
  • A genuine passion for Science and a commitment to helping young people achieve their full potential.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • The ability to engage and inspire students of different abilities.
  • A flexible, reliable and professional approach.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and diversity in education.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
