Secondary schools and multi-academy trusts across Reading (RG postcodes, including Central Reading, Earley, Tilehurst, and Woodley) are seeking passionate, adaptable Music Specialists for flexible day-to-day and short-term supply cover across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Role OverviewAs a specialist Music Supply Teacher, you will step into pre-planned Music lessons across various secondary settings in Reading. Local schools specifically value music specialists who can lead performance and composition activities, guide pupils through music software tasks, and manage classroom dynamics in energetic expressive arts environments.
This position offers complete flexibility: choose to work anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week with zero lesson planning, marking, or extra-curricular obligations.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver pre-set Music lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE / Vocational Music)
- Guide pupils through practical keyboard, rhythm, vocal, and ensemble performance exercises
- Assist students with composition tasks using school equipment and software (e.g., Garage Band, Sibelius, Cubase)
- Maintain strict behavior management and equipment care across music rooms, practice suites, and computer labs
- Complete electronic attendance registers accurately at the start of each period
- Leave structured written feedback and handover notes for returning departmental staff
- Total Schedule Control: Choose the specific days and Reading areas you wish to work

- Strong practical musical skills (keyboard/piano proficiency advantageous) and classroom management abilities
- Basic familiarity with music tech software and classroom instrument management
- An active DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
