SEN Teacher - Independent Therapeutic School - Berkshire

Are you an inspiring SEN Teacher looking for a role where relationships matter more than behaviour management?

EmpowerED is recruiting a passionate SEN Teacher to join a remarkable independent therapeutic school in Berkshire. This is a unique opportunity for an SEN Teacher who wants to work in an environment where education is truly individualised and every child is supported to rediscover a love of learning.

Unlike many specialist settings, this is not a behaviour school. The school supports children and young people whose education has been disrupted by severe anxiety, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and mental health challenges. The focus is on understanding each child, rebuilding confidence and creating the conditions for them to thrive.

A School That Does Things Differently

This independent therapeutic school believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach to education.

Using the PACE approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy), staff build meaningful relationships with pupils, recognising that behaviour is communication and taking time to understand what sits beneath it.

Learning is carefully personalised around each child's strengths, interests, needs and aspirations. The aim is simple: remove barriers, restore confidence and help every young person achieve goals they may once have believed were impossible.

For the right SEN Teacher, this is an opportunity to teach in a calm, nurturing environment where wellbeing is valued just as highly as academic progress.

• Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
• Support pupils experiencing severe anxiety, emotionally based school avoidance and mental health challenges.
• Create a safe, therapeutic learning environment where pupils feel understood and valued.
• Build strong, trusting relationships that encourage confidence and re-engagement with education.
• Work collaboratively with therapists, families and a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic support.
• Celebrate progress in all its forms, recognising that success looks different for every learner.

• Qualified Teachers (QTS or equivalent).
• Passionate about inclusive and therapeutic education.
• Patient, reflective and emotionally intelligent.
• Curious about understanding the reasons behind a child's difficulties rather than simply responding to behaviour.
• Committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Experience in SEND, SEMH, autism, trauma-informed practice or therapeutic education would be highly desirable, although teachers with a genuine interest in this approach are also encouraged to apply.

• Competitive salary based on experience.
• The opportunity to join a highly respected independent therapeutic school.
• Ongoing CPD and training, including therapeutic and PACE-informed practice.
• A collaborative, supportive team that genuinely values staff wellbeing.
• The chance to transform the educational journeys of children who need it most.
