Principal Quantity Surveyor

We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a Principal Quantity Surveyor to lead a team of Quantity Surveyors supporting the delivery of major capital projects at Thames Water as part of AMP8
.

You’ll oversee a contractor programme of up to £200m per year
, providing commercial leadership and helping deliver essential services to millions of customers.

• Provide commercial assurance across major projects and programmes
• Offer contractual advice and guidance to delivery teams
• Manage costs, budgets, risk, and contingency reporting
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team, including supporting chartership
• Challenge and agree project tenders and valuations
• Ensure timely and accurate payments under contract
• Assess change, variations, and extensions of time
• Support procurement and contract governance
• Assist with the resolution of claims where required

• Degree or Master’s in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent)
• Background in civil engineering (utilities, infrastructure, transport, or similar)
• Experience managing and developing a small team
• Strong pre- and post-contract QS experience
• Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills
• Resilient, proactive, and comfortable working under pressure

• Hybrid working – Reading / Maple Lodge
• 36 hours per week

• Salary: £76,000 – £86,000 (depending on experience)
• 26 days holiday (rising to 30 with service) + bank holidays
