Job Description

Own your impact. Lead great people. Shape what comes next.

At Wood, we’re building the future of energy and we want people who care about purpose, progress and great teamwork. If you’re an engineering leader who enjoys solving big problems, working with talented people, and delivering projects that actually matter — you’ll fit right in.

We’re looking for a Project Engineering Manager to join our Reading Centre of Excellence and lead multi‑discipline teams across major FEED and EPCm projects. You’ll be part of a business that’s delivering everything from hydrogen and carbon capture to large‑scale energy infrastructure around the world.

What

The Role Is Really About

You’ll take ownership of engineering delivery, bring people together around a common vision, and help make smart decisions that drive projects forward. This role blends technical awareness, leadership, communication, and a strong sense of accountability — ideal for someone who likes to lead from the front and build teams that perform at their best.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

Lead people, not just processes

  • Set the tone for culture, collaboration and ethical leadership
  • Champion HSSE principles in how we design and deliver
  • Support, guide and grow a multi‑discipline engineering team
Own the engineering delivery

  • Lead engineering across concept, FEED, EPCm and PMC
  • Keep scope, schedule and progress on track
  • Bring clarity, structure and direction to complex project environments
  • Keep stakeholders aligned through clear, open communication
Drive quality and smarter ways of working

  • Use good judgement and data‑driven insights to make solid decisions
  • Review and approve key engineering documents and strategies
  • Embrace digital tools and information management to boost consistency and efficiency
  • Identify risks early and keep the team ahead of them
Help the team do their best work

  • Build trust and encourage a problem‑solving mindset
  • Support performance, development and cross-discipline coordination
  • Address challenges quickly and fairly, keeping the team motivated and focused
Represent the project

  • Engage with clients and partners in a confident, collaborative way
  • Support multi‑office delivery and high‑value engineering centres
  • Step in for the Project Manager when needed
Qualifications

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in engineering (Chartered preferred)
  • Strong experience leading engineering teams in a home‑office project environment
  • Background in energy transition, hydrogen, CCS, oil & gas, LNG/GTL, refining, petrochemicals, chemicals or power
  • Confidence in decision‑making, communication and guiding multi‑discipline teams
  • Understanding of both lump‑sum and reimbursable delivery models
  • A broad technical foundation paired with leadership instincts
  • Willingness to travel when required
