Sustainability placement/Internship
Job Overview
The placement student will be working with the Energy and Sustainability Team as a consultant. The team is responsible for delivering a range of sustainability services.
Services Provided- Energy Strategy Reports and Daylight modelling for planning submission
- BREEAM and Passivhaus assessments
- Energy modelling for Building Regulation Part L compliance calculations (IES/SAP/SBEM)
- Overheating analysis
To assist with the delivery of these services the student is expected to complete work efficiently to meet deadlines, adapt their approach flexibly, communicate effectively with project teams, and present their work in formal settings. Working as a sustainability consultant is a highly collaborative role that requires strong teamwork skills and initiative.
The student will have an assigned mentor who will manage their workload, provide training, and be available for support. The student and mentor will conduct periodic reviews to assess skill levels, progression, and training needs.
As the student progresses throughout the term, they will gain opportunities to lead and manage their own projects and will be expected to manage their own workload independently. They will also have the option to experience other service areas—such as environmental, acoustics, civil, MEP design, ecology, and embodied carbon assessments—if desired, to ensure a well‑rounded experience.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the sustainability team and associated service propositions
- Liaise with project teams on contract award to highlight requirements
- Report writing
- Develop and build relationships with industry peers, consultants, and clients
- Prepare and give presentations
- Review evidence for BREEAM assessments
- Client interaction
- Energy and carbon emission calculations
- Competitive reimbursement and industry leading experience gained during the placement
