Design Technician
We’re representing a leading organisation in the design and engineering sector that is looking to appoint a Design Technician to join their growing team in Reading.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and technically minded individual to work across a variety of projects, supporting the delivery of innovative design solutions through both 2D drawings and 3D modelling.
The RoleAs a Design Technician, you’ll play a key role in translating project requirements into accurate technical drawings and models. Working closely with design, engineering, and project teams, you'll help ensure solutions are practical, compliant, and aligned with both client expectations and manufacturing capabilities.
Key Responsibilities Drafting (Approx. 25%)- Produce 2D drawings, including proposal and approval/shop drawings
- Support the development of material take-offs and schedules
- Act as a link between engineering teams, internal departments, and clients
- Contribute across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to delivery
- Create detailed 3D models and visualisations for client presentations
- Develop parametric models to enhance design flexibility and efficiency
- Collaborate with designers to deliver accurate and high-quality outputs
- Provide design data that supports engineering processes
- Work closely with engineering teams to deliver manufacturable solutions
- Support wider project teams with technical expertise across various stages
- Stay up to date with industry trends, software, and best practices
- Participate in training, workshops, and certification programmes
- Continuously develop technical capability
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental procedures
- Promote a safe, responsible, and sustainable working environment
- Ensure all work aligns with company standards, legislation, and specifications
- Contribute to maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction
- Undertake training and professional development as required
- Support business needs, including occasional travel if necessary
- Carry out any reasonable duties within the scope of the role
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
- Experience using AutoCAD and Revit in a design environment
- Familiarity with Inventor (or willingness to learn)
- Strong understanding of architectural drawings, specifications, and compliance
- Knowledge of design and approval processes
- Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- A collaborative team player
- Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Office applications
