Job Description & How to Apply Below

At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality.

The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started and we’ve recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round – the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.

The Purpose

As an Equipment Project Engineer, you'll play a critical role in bringing world-leading quantum computing facilities to life.

Acting as the bridge between facility design and operational readiness, you'll ensure complex scientific equipment is successfully integrated into cutting-edge laboratories, clean rooms and technical work spaces.

Your work will directly enable the deployment of the infrastructure powering the next generation of quantum technology.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced project engineer to lead the planning, specification and delivery of specialist equipment into highly technical environments.

You'll work across facility design, procurement, installation and commissioning, managing interfaces between building fit-out and equipment installation to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on budget.

What You'll Be Working On
  • Translating process requirements into facility layouts, room concepts and technical specifications for quantum laboratories, nanofabrication clean rooms and engineering workshops.
  • Specifying and procuring specialist equipment, managing RFQ/RFI processes and coordinating suppliers through delivery.
  • Managing critical interfaces between building infrastructure and process equipment, mitigating design clashes and operational risks.
  • Coordinating equipment-specific utilities including power, cooling, specialty gases and data connections to support successful installation and operation.
  • Leading installation activities on-site, managing contractors, reviewing RAMS and ensuring compliance with project schedules and quality standards.
  • Monitoring project budgets, forecasting costs, reporting progress and proactively managing project risks.
  • Driving safe delivery through CDM compliance, safety reviews, equipment interlocks and continuous improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience specifying and delivering high-tech equipment into complex technical environments such as laboratories, clean rooms or advanced manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience managing installation contractors and reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) under CDM regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering cross-functional technical projects from concept through completion.
  • Strong CAD, layout planning or technical sketching capability.
  • Technical understanding of facility utilities, including power, cooling and supporting infrastructure.
  • Experience identifying, managing and mitigating project and interface risks.
  • Budget forecasting and project cost control experience.
  • Strong stakeholder management and supplier engagement skills.
  • High attention to detail, particularly in safety, quality and environmental compliance.
  • Comfortable escalating issues early while proposing practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across internal and external teams.
The 'Nice-to-Haves'
  • Experience delivering quantum computing infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineering status (CEng, IEng) or actively working towards accreditation.
  • Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH.
  • Formal Project Management certification (APM PMQ, PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent).
  • Experience presenting project updates and reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience managing contractual and physical interfaces between Building Fit-Out and Equipment Installation teams.
Why Join OQC

You will join a world-class team at the forefront of the next computational era. We offer a culture of bold innovation, the chance to work with unique lab infrastructure, and the opportunity to see your work redefine the limits of computation.
