This is a contract role starting ASAP and lasting until December 2026. Typical working days would be Monday to Friday, with programmed outage/out-of-hours working.

You must have an SSE (SSEN) authorisation at the Senior Appointed Person/Site Management level.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take overall site responsibility for safe, compliant, on-programme delivery of the outstanding works to the programme completion date of 8 December 2026.
  • Act as the primary interface with SSEN operational, authorising and commissioning staff; plan, request and manage HV and LV outages and site access windows.
  • Hold and exercise SSE (SSEN) authorisation at Senior Authorised Person / site-management level; control the safe system of work and issue/receive safety documentation.
  • Lead and coordinate the site team (site supervisor, fitters/electricians, cable jointer) and specialist subcontractors, allocating resource against the programme.
  • Own site health, safety, environmental and CDM compliance; prepare and brief RAMS, run daily briefings, and maintain a zero-harm culture on a live/part-live substation.
  • Coordinate the testing, commissioning and energisation sequence with the commissioning engineer and SSEN control.
  • Manage quality, inspection and test plan sign-off, snagging and defect close-out.
  • Compile and submit commissioning documentation and as-built records; manage de‑mobilisation and handover.
  • Manage free‑issue materials and equipment, plant, logistics and traffic management (A339).
  • Report progress, risk and cost against programme to the Contracts/Project Manager.
Essential qualifications and experience:
  • Current SSE / SSEN (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks) authorisation to Senior Authorised Person / site-management level under the applicable Distribution Safety Rules.
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
  • Recognised electrical/engineering qualification (HNC/HND or C&G in electrical engineering) or equivalent time‑served background.
  • SHEA Power / EUSR utility safety passport and CSCS/ECS card; first aid at work.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Demonstrable, hands‑on experience managing works on high voltage substations at 33kV and 132kV.
  • Proven delivery of grid transformer replacement and associated HV/LV installation and commissioning in a DNO/transmission environment (ideally SSEN/SSE).
  • Experience planning and managing HV outages and the associated safety documentation.
  • Experience leading multi‑disciplinary site teams and subcontractors to programme.
