Role Summary
Internal Audit is an independent, objective assurance function responsible for ensuring that internal control, risk and governance frameworks remain fit for purpose. As an Audit Manager, you will help deliver meaningful improvements across the business by engaging with stakeholders to identify risk and control improvements across a range of business functions within Life, predominantly the COO and Individual Life & Pensions.
You will develop an understanding of the business, build confidence and presentation skills through exposure to Senior Management, and work in a respectful, collaborative environment.
- Oversee and take responsibility for work delegated to and performed by team members.
- Identify risks, key controls and scope areas, and request necessary information.
- Identify and attend meetings with auditees to develop an understanding of business processes.
- Prepare and review key planning documentation such as audit planning memorandum, risk and control matrix, and testing strategies in accordance with the Internal Audit Standards Manual.
- Ensure Team Mate+ records of processes, activity and risk are updated appropriately.
- Travel to different sites as necessary to meet staff and review documents and information.
- Design and perform audit testing across different business/operational areas.
- Produce and review audit files and working papers to ensure a consistently high standard in accordance with the Internal Audit Standards Manual.
- Treat personal data of customers, employees and other individuals lawfully, in line with current Data Protection laws.
- Ensure assignments are completed on time and within budget, or document reasons otherwise.
- Lead and/or support in the discussion of audit testing results and observations with stakeholders.
- Raise exceptions and draft observations to a very good standard, meeting the internal audit standards manual requirements.
- Propose or review proposed ratings for issues raised and, where possible, the overall report in line with the Operational Risk Standard.
- Oversee and review audit documentation written by junior team members.
- Draft all other elements of the final report to a high standard, ensuring minimal correction is required.
- Ensure reporting is completed on time and in line with the audit plan.
- Perform issue assurance, support coordination and monitor issue closure on Metrics Stream and TM+.
- Inform affected stakeholders about the scope and purpose of the audit, the audit timeline, and progress throughout the assignment.
- Lead or assist in discussions to agree on observations to be raised.
- Build relationships with stakeholders based on integrity, professionalism, and respect.
- Maintain specified relationships; ensure periodic meetings and relevant committee attendance, keeping the audit universe data on Team Mate+ up to date.
- Consider feedback obtained from auditees and decide on escalation to Audit Operations if needed.
- Set clear objectives and expectations for staff on assignments and provide meaningful assignment appraisals.
- Assist and help train junior members constructively on completing audit assignments.
- Provide constructive 360 feedback during audit and post‑audit debriefs, and actively seek feedback from colleagues.
- Develop professional relationships consistent with M&G values and behaviours.
- Support effective time management and capacity planning, ensuring utilisation rates and timesheet completion.
- Actively participate in the Life Audit Community.
- Seek learning opportunities through training or assignments.
- Lead or participate in initiatives to develop the function.
