Position: Probation Service Officer - Integrated Offender Management (IOM) - West Berkshire

Job Description & Requirements

Probation Services Officers (PSOs) support and manage people on probation before and after sentence, helping them reintegrate into the community. The role involves assessing risk, implementing sentencing decisions, liaising with courts and agencies, and providing practical support such as housing and employment advice. Successful candidates will produce clear, accurate reports under tight deadlines and demonstrate empathy, patience, and organisational skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage the risk posed by offenders on probation.
  • Implement sentencing orders and monitor compliance.
  • Collect, analyse and produce case reports for courts and agencies.
  • Provide practical advice and support to offenders on housing, employment and personal development.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records in line with statutory and organisational policies.
Qualifications
  • Empathetic, patient and resilient personal qualities.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills; ability to produce accurate reports within deadlines.
  • Experience working with individuals who have social or personal difficulties – a degree is not required.
