Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Band 6 or 7 Locum Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the Talking Therapies team at Erlegh House in Wokingham and Reading. This role involves providing specialist speech and language therapy services to children within mainstream and special schools, focusing on assessment and intervention to support their communication needs.

What your responsibilities will be for this Speech and Language Therapy role?

As a Band 6/7 Locum Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will be responsible for assessing speech, language, and communication needs of children in both mainstream and special schools, and devising effective therapy plans to address these needs. Your key tasks will include conducting detailed assessments, writing SMART goals, and providing clear recommendations based on each child’s individual requirements. You will be expected to prepare concise reports for the Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) process, adhering to tight deadlines, and develop therapy plans with clear outcomes and relevant activities.

Effective communication with families, carers, and educational staff is crucial to ensure that therapeutic recommendations are implemented and that progress is monitored. You will work flexibly, with a working pattern of 30 hours per week and adjustable hours to accommodate your needs.

Key Requirements:

  • HCPC registration
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Full UK driving license and access to a car for work purposes
  • Experience working with paediatric clients, ideally in mainstream and special school settings
  • Proficiency in writing SMART goals, clear and concise reports, and therapy plans
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage caseloads effectively
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with children, families, and educational staff
