Job Overview

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Delivery Suite Coordinator Midwife to join the practice education and development team for a 6‑month maternity leave cover. The successful applicant will be responsible for intrapartum and MAU education and support the delivery of the maternity education programme.

The midwife will work 11.5 hours per week on Delivery in the Band 7 coordinator role.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and strong commitment to the maternity service.
  • Be accountable for midwifery performance and achievement of all organisational targets and standards, working within the Trust’s governance framework and current regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Establish effective links with the multi‑professional education team and promote women's and families’ involvement in decisions affecting their care.
  • Ensure clinical practice is in line with Data Protection, Confidentiality and Caldicott principles and meets all professional, ethical and legal codes.
  • Prioritise workload to meet targets, work under pressure and seek creative solutions to challenges.
  • Actively promote diversity, interdisciplinary working, and manage change in clinical practice and service delivery throughout maternity services.
Clinical and Technical
  • Demonstrate specialist expertise and professional knowledge acquired through post‑registration academic, clinical, leadership and management development.
  • Collaborate with Lead PDM, Matron and clinical leads to develop and monitor performance, clinical outcomes and improve standards of care.
  • Monitor and audit the quality of care through risk management, incident reporting, complaints, research and clinical audit.
  • Ensure that babies' interests are paramount while acting as an advocate for the mother.
  • Accountable for communication and dissemination of information to midwives and other health professionals.
Teaching and Training
  • Ensure newly appointed midwifery staff receive appropriate orientation and induction programmes.
  • Support midwives in their own development by being a reflective practitioner and using this skill.
  • Work with the multi‑disciplinary team to enable research, evidence‑based women‑centred and cost‑effective care.
  • Deliver multidisciplinary training, tailoring the learning environment to adult learning principles.
  • Respond to training and development needs of midwives in intra‑partum and MAU areas.
  • Facilitate newly qualified midwives in developing midwifery skills.
Role Responsibilities
  • Cultivate an open and honest culture where staff feel able to raise concerns and share good practice.
  • Take ownership of problems and influence change management when necessary.
  • Support recruitment and retention programme for the maternity service.
  • Develop own skills, undertake continuing professional development and maintain a portfolio in line with NMC revalidation requirements.
  • Audit and evaluate the service provided.
  • Promote Trust values and objectives.
  • Assist ward managers/university link teachers by using data from higher education for learning evaluation and support midwifery quality, audit reporting and clinical governance.
  • Contribute to midwifery practice development by undertaking one 11.5‑hour clinical shift each week.
  • Participate in on‑call rota for managers, providing support to midwives and support workers.
  • Assist with setting learning outcomes for midwives undergoing supported practice and monitor progress.
Other Responsibilities
  • Attend statutory and mandatory training and use eLearning to achieve compliance.
  • Maintain own portfolio and identify development needs, setting personal objectives.
  • Manage exposure to biohazards and other materials, ensuring appropriate precautions.
