Position: Senior Staff Nurse - SACT Outpatient Service (Fixed Term 9 Months)

Job Summary

Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse (SACT Outpatients) – fixed‑term secondment for 9 months (25/05/2026 to 28/02/2027) covering maternity leave.

Position based at Royal Berkshire Hospital, Bracknell Healthspace and West Berkshire Community Hospital, Thatcham. Working days Monday‑Friday 08:30‑18:30 with informal visits encouraged. For more details, contact Lead SACT Nurse Abby Freeman.

Key Responsibilities

Provide integrated clinical leadership to the outpatient SACT nursing team and develop practice in partnership with the SACT unit manager.

Deliver patient‑focused programmes of care, addressing the complex and evolving health needs of cancer patients.

Manage the SACT unit on a day‑to‑day basis when required, reporting to the SACT unit manager.

Oversee operational management of staff and resources, ensuring a safe environment and lead specific ward management tasks in the absence of the unit manager.

Act as an expert in SACT delivery and patient assessment for this patient group.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Registered Adult Nurse (Part 1/2) or equivalent.
Completion of UKONS SACT passport or equivalent.
Experience of SACT administration, leadership/management and specialty development.
Post‑qualification oncology/haematology experience.
Experience of mentoring, facilitating, teaching, assessing and/or coaching.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Advanced Communications Course.
Post‑graduate cancer qualification.
Experience of successful change management.
Experience working on a SACT outpatient unit.
ILC (Information Literacy in Cancer) training.
