The post-holder serves as an expert practitioner and is responsible for the strategic direction of patient‑focused care programmes in the Dermatology department. These programmes aim to address the complex and evolving health and well‑being needs of the client group.
The goal is to ensure that the department’s processes are centred on patients receiving effective and efficient care.
The post-holder collaborates with lead clinicians, nurse consultants, care group managers, and directors to establish and implement the strategic vision for the services. Additionally, they develop and implement a policy to support the growth of the service.
The Lead Nurse possesses excellent communication and leadership skills and is responsible for the day‑to‑day line management of the senior team under their supervision. They also act as a budget holder and authorised signatory for financial resources.
Main Duties- 80% clinical, 20% managerial responsibilities
- Oversee the nursing team and financial resources to ensure effective operation and appropriate skill mix.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Lead, Directorate Manager, and Matron to ensure efficient planning, implementation, and monitoring of the service.
- Conduct audits and develop nursing practices.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and a well‑kept departmental environment.
- Prioritise workload to meet targets and keep the Nursing, Medical, and Directorate Management teams informed of any quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with Data Protection, Confidentiality, and Caldecott principles.
- Deliver on Trust and local key performance indicators.
- Significant recent experience in speciality
- Experience running own clinics with complex dermatology cases and procedures
- Advanced physical assessment skills and independent prescriber
- Demonstrable experience managing budgets
- Experience managing staff rosters in the clinical area
- First degree

- Master’s degree or postgraduate study
- Other qualification in speciality
- Knowledge of legislative and healthcare policies and frameworks
- Project or change management experience
- Demonstrates a transformational and coaching leadership style
- Awareness of investigations into serious incidents using the PSIRF methodology
- Ability to work across hospital sites to deliver service demands

Salary: £47,810 to £62,682 a year
