Senior Staff Nurse – SACT Outpatient Service (Fixed Term 9 Months)

Band 6 –

Contract:

9 months (Fixed Term / Secondment; 25 May 2026 to 28 Feb 2027)

Location:

Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. Service also covers Bracknell Healthspace and West Berkshire Community Hospital, Thatcham.

Hours:

Full time – 37.5 hours per week (variable shifts).
Opening time:
Monday – Friday, 08:30–18:30. Shift patterns are variable

Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 per annum.

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Staff Nurse to join our SACT outpatients team for 9 months, covering maternity leave. The role includes leading a team of nurses, delivering cancer patient care, managing day‑to‑day operations and contributing to service development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide integrated clinical leadership for the outpatient SACT team, improving best practice and patient care.
  • Deliver patient‑focused programmes of care, addressing complex health and well‑being needs.
  • Manage the SACT unit day‑to‑day, reporting to the unit manager, and assume operational responsibility when needed.
  • Provide expert SACT delivery and patient assessment for this patient group.
  • Lead specific aspects of ward management in the absence of the unit manager.
Person Specification – Education / Qualifications
  • Essential criteria:
    Registered Adult Nurse (Pt 1/2),
    UKONS SACT passport or equivalent
    .
  • Desirable criteria:
    Advanced Communications Course
    , Post‑graduate cancer qualification
    , ILS
    .
Person Specification – Experience
  • Essential criteria: Experience of SACT administration, leadership/management, specialty development, post‑qualification oncology/haematology experience, mentoring or coaching.
  • Desirable criteria: Experience of successful change management, experience working on an SACT outpatient unit.
