The Integration Support Engineer sits within the Digital Data & Technology (DDaT) team, adding value for patients through improving and developing digital services across the Trust and wider health and care system. This role focuses on interoperability between healthcare systems, using HL7 and FHIR standards, APIs, and various healthcare applications to support, develop, and troubleshoot integration processes within the NHS digital infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement, and manage interfaces to enable seamless data exchange between clinical and operational systems using the Trust Integration Engine (TIE) such as Rhapsody or Mirth.
  • Troubleshoot data exchange issues (e.g., message formatting, connectivity, data mapping) to minimise disruption to clinical services.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM) and data security requirements for internal and external systems.
  • Perform data transformation to ensure consistent and accurate data exchange and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with clinical, technical, and third-party stakeholders to align integrations with Trust goals and governance.
  • Support API development and management, including RESTful APIs, monitoring, and optimisation with vendors and internal teams.
  • Engage in vendor and supplier management, including contract/SLA management, upgrades, patches, and procurement input.
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement, provide clear explanations of technical concepts, and maintain regular status reporting.
  • Develop user guides and training materials; provide ongoing stakeholder support for new integrations.
  • Contribute to project participation, testing, validation, and documentation of integration designs and workflows.
  • Support governance, compliance, security, and audit activities related to integration projects.
Essential criteria
  • At least 3 years of experience developing interfaces to EPR systems.
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting HL7 and FHIR interfaces; experience with interface engines such as Rhapsody.
  • Experience working within a hospital environment.
  • Qualifications in NHS interfacing standards such as HL7 and FHIR; educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with HL7, FHIR, and related data standards; knowledge of NHS digital guidelines.
Desirable criteria
  • Oracle (Cerner) experience is desirable.
  • Experience with integration engines such as Rhapsody.
