Job Description & How to Apply Below

At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started and we’ve recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round – the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.

The

Purpose

As a Data Scientist at OQC, you'll help accelerate the development of next-generation quantum hardware through data-driven insight, predictive modelling, and simulation. Working at the intersection of science, engineering, and software, you'll transform complex datasets into actionable intelligence that shapes critical hardware decisions and drives technological progress.

The Role

We're looking for a Data Scientist to develop predictive models, analyse complex engineering datasets, and build the software tooling that enables informed decision‑making across our hardware programmes. You'll collaborate closely with hardware, measurement, and software engineers to improve performance, optimise designs, and support the development of future quantum technologies.

What You'll Be Working On
  • Develop and optimise predictive models to support hardware design, specification, and engineering decision-making.
  • Analyse large, multi‑parameter datasets to identify trends, quantify performance, and generate actionable insights.
  • Build, maintain, and improve software tools for data analysis, modelling, and simulation.
  • Apply software engineering best practices including version control, testing, code reviews, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define requirements and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Create clear visualisations, technical reports, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve analytical workflows, modelling approaches, and data‑driven processes across the business.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience applying statistical analysis and predictive modelling techniques to solve complex technical or business problems.
  • Proven ability to independently deliver data science projects or work streams.
  • Experience developing software or analytical tools that support data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Strong experience working with large‑scale datasets and data management infrastructures.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and scientific computing libraries including Num Py, Sci Py, Pandas, and data visualisation tools.
  • Solid understanding of numerical methods, probability, and statistics.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and large‑scale data analysis.
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices including Git, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • Experience working with databases and object/blob storage technologies.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical disciplines.
  • Understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
The 'Nice-to-Haves'
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant scientific, engineering, mathematical, or computing discipline.
  • Experience with scientific or systems modelling, including engineering, thermal, electromagnetic, or materials domains.
  • Experience with machine learning or deep learning frameworks.
  • Experience working within Agile software development environments.
  • Experience implementing automated testing frameworks or test‑driven development practices.
  • Experience mentoring colleagues and engaging with a broad range of technical stakeholders.
  • Exposure to quantum technologies, radio‑frequency electronics, thermodynamics, or systems engineering environments.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
Why Join OQC

You will join a world‑class team at the forefront of the next computational era. We offer a culture of bold innovation, the chance to work with unique lab infrastructure, and the opportunity to see your work redefine the limits of computation.
