About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join a growing Data & Integration function, playing a key role in designing, delivering and supporting enterprise infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments.
This is a hands-on technical position focused on modern infrastructure, cloud platforms and container technologies. You'll be responsible for ensuring critical systems remain secure, resilient and highly available while driving automation, infrastructure modernisation and platform improvements.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, implement and support enterprise infrastructure across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
- Administer and optimise Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud-native services.
- Manage Windows Server and Linux environments.
- Deploy, configure and support Kubernetes and Red Hat Open Shift platforms.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code solutions using tools such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates or Ansible.
- Drive automation through scripting using Power Shell, Bash or Python.
- Ensure infrastructure remains secure, resilient, performant and compliant.
- Monitor platform health, capacity and availability across enterprise systems.
- Support backup, disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational standards.
- Support cloud migrations, infrastructure transformation and technology refresh programmes.
What We're Looking For
- Eligibility for SC Clearance
- 5+ years' experience in Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or Platform Engineering.
- Strong experience administering Microsoft Azure environments.
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
- Strong Windows Server and Linux administration skills.
- Experience with Kubernetes administration.
- Practical experience supporting Red Hat Open Shift.
- Knowledge of enterprise virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Strong networking knowledge including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, routing, load balancing and firewalls.
- Scripting and automation experience using Power Shell, Bash, Python or similar.
- Experience with monitoring, logging and observability platforms.
- Knowledge of backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams.
- Experience working within Agile, Dev Ops or Platform Engineering environments.
- Microsoft Azure Administrator or Azure Solutions Architect certifications.
- Red Hat Open Shift certification.
- VMware VCP.
- ITIL Foundation.
- Experience with in defence, aerospace or other highly regulated industries.
- Knowledge of Azure Arc and hybrid cloud management.
- Understanding of Zero Trust Architecture.
- Experience with Software Defined Networking (SDN).
- Familiarity with service mesh technologies such as Istio.
- Knowledge of Fin Ops and cloud cost optimisation.
6 month contract initially
Reading – 3 days per week on site
