Volunteer "Reading Through Recovery" Group Facilitator

Location:

Some flexibility – meetings in Weymouth, Dorchester and online.

Timing: 2-3 hours per week.

Waythrough provides specialist support across mental health, alcohol, drugs and related areas.

Every year, we support around 125,000 people through a network of services.

Role Overview

Volunteer group facilitators help new members feel welcome and empower everyone to contribute.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate a non‑judgemental space for participants to express feelings and share experiences.
  • Foster a sense of community and trust among group members.
  • Enable participants to connect through shared narratives and relate to each other’s journeys.
  • Encourage reflection and discussion during the 90 group sessions.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Welcoming, friendly, and able to put people at ease.
  • Confident and calm in group settings.
  • Good IT skills – able to use the SMART Recovery UK training platform and submit written responses via email.
  • Non‑judgemental towards people facing challenges in their lives, including drug and/or alcohol use and mental health.
  • Good time‑keeping.
  • Able to work as part of a team, on initiative and following instruction.
  • Understanding of Waythrough (information available on the website).
  • Genuine interest in Waythrough’s mission and vision.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, adhere to policies, engage in supervision and complete relevant training.
Training

Volunteers have access to Waythrough’s training platform, Learning Kind. A required induction workshop and additional training modules will be completed within the first three months.
