We are ideally looking for a Practice Nurse who has a specialism in diabetes or is willing to train towards becoming a qualified diabetes Nurse.
Main duties of the jobThe Practice Nurse will perform tasks prescribed and delegated by the GP Partners, working unsupervised to PGDs, agreed protocols and within defined competencies.
The Practice Nurse will assess patients and plan, implement and review treatment programmes. The Practice Nurse will have shared responsibility for training and supervision of new members of the nursing team and colleagues.
Job responsibilitiesWe are a training practice, use the EMIS Clinical system and have a strong emphasis on proactive teamwork.
The successful candidate will work as part of the clinical team and be responsible for consulting with patients in respect of their continuing medical and nursing needs.
Treatment room skills, to include:
- ECGs
- Removal of sutures/clips
- Wound care/dressings
- Contraception
- Cervical cytology
- Child and adult injections
- Keep up to date with current guidelines and attend training updates as agreed with the practice.
Diabetes reviews skills, to include:
- Interpreting results
- Starting and adjusting medication
- Promoting lifestyle changes
- Managing reviews and follow ups
- Minimum of 2 years' experience of working with healthcare professionals and/or previous experience in the NHS.
- Previously worked in a GP surgery.
- Educated to degree level in Nursing.
- Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Qualified in Diabetes.
- Ability to prioritise, delegate and work to deadlines.
- Effective time management.
- Knowledge of EMIS Web.
- Proven problem solving & Analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

- Ability to use initiative & judgement.
