  • Actively participates in and supports Clinical Governance, taking responsibility for maintaining and improving standards of patient care within the clinical area.
  • Acts as a positive clinical role model, ensuring that the child, young person and family experience remains central to service delivery and decision-making.
  • Supports and leads the monitoring and evaluation of quality and safety, including incident reporting, risk management, complaints, patient feedback, clinical audit, research and effectiveness monitoring.
  • Identifies areas of concern, escalates appropriately and contributes to the development and implementation of actions and service improvements arising from incidents, audits and patient feedback.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the vision and objectives of the clinical area and actively contributes to the ongoing development of the service.
  • Works alongside the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure the effective and responsible use of available financial and staffing resources, with an understanding of budgetary responsibilities.
  • Takes responsibility for coordinating the clinical area when required, ensuring appropriate skill mix, safe staffing, effective caseload management and appropriate allocation of resources according to patient acuity and service demand.
  • Provides leadership, support and clinical advice to junior members of the nursing team, acting as a point of escalation and promoting a positive learning and safety culture.
  • Takes an active role in maintaining the health, safety and security of patients, staff and visitors, identifying and assessing risks within the clinical environment and implementing appropriate actions to minimise these.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of relevant risk management, occupational health and health and safety requirements, ensuring concerns are appropriately managed, documented and escalated.
  • Works collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team and supports change and innovation, contributing to the continued development and expansion of the service.,Registered Children's Nurse (RSCN/RN Child) with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).,Demonstrable leadership and supervisory experience, including coordinating a clinical area or shift, supporting junior staff and students, and contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

    unit cares for children and young people 0-16 years of age referred by a GP, the emergency department(A&E), surgical teams, paediatric teams, the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) or following a recent discharge from a hospital ward
  • We are looking for an experienced and motivated nurse with strong leadership and excellent communication skills, who can confidently coordinate the service, support and develop junior colleagues, and work effectively across the wider multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be proactive, adaptable and enthusiastic about driving service improvement and supporting the continued development of Paediatric SDEC.We also have the advantage of a ward-based Practice Educator who works closely with all staff to promote learning opportunities.

    Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to work at times in our other Paediatric services which includes Paediatrics ED and Neonatal Unit.

  • Significant post-registration experience in a paediatric acute care setting, with the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based, family-centred care for children and young people.,Evidence of participation in quality improvement, clinical audit, research, or service development initiatives, with the ability to implement evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes.,Competent in paediatric venepuncture and peripheral intravenous cannulation, or willing to undertake training and achieve competency within an agreed timeframe.
