Senior Staff Nurse; Orthopaedic Trauma Unit

Senior Staff Nurse post on the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, a fixed-term role covering maternity leave to September 2027. The post provides patient-focused care for trauma patients and leads nursing and support staff when the Ward Sister or Charge Nurse is absent. The unit treats spinal, head and polytrauma patients, working alongside the fractured neck of femur unit.

Right to work in the UK is needed by the start date, as sponsorship is not normally available.

• Deliver patient-focused programmes of care for complex and changing health and wellbeing needs
• Care for trauma, spinal injury, head injury and polytrauma patients
• Run the ward or department in the absence of the Ward Sister or Charge Nurse
• Provide clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff
• Work with ortho-geriatricians, medical and surgical teams across the trauma pathway

• Registered nurse

• NMC registration

• Appropriate post-registration experience
• Trauma orthopaedic experience
• NHS experience

• Right to work in the UK by the proposed start date

• Leadership experience as a band 6
• Spinal or traction training
• Bowel care training
• Orthopaedic course

• Weekly ward teaching sessions and consultant-led teaching
• Advanced trauma nurse team teaching on traction and spinal injuries
• Bi-yearly trauma-specific study days
• Trauma Immediate Life Support course
• Level 6 and 7 courses linked to local universities
• Trust leadership courses
• Link roles to develop a specialist area of nursing
• Two-week supernumerary induction on the ward
