Estate Gardener – Vacancy
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Gardener to join our dedicated Estate team and play a key role in the restoration and ongoing maintenance of the historic gardens at Farley Hall. Working within a stunning Grade I listed setting, this is a rare opportunity for a passionate and hands‑on gardener to contribute to the care and enhancement of an exceptional country estate.
Set within the Berkshire countryside near Reading, the estate spans more than 1,000 acres of picturesque farmland, riverside landscapes, woodland, parkland and commercial enterprises. The gardens themselves include extensive lawns, mature trees, ornamental planting, vegetable and fruit gardens, water features and traditional walled gardens.
Reporting to the Deputy Estate Manager or Senior Gardener, the successful candidate will assist with the maintenance, upkeep and ongoing restoration of the Hall gardens and wider estate grounds to an exceptionally high standard.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out a wide range of practical gardening and grounds maintenance duties across the Hall gardens and grounds.
- Assist in the restoration, maintenance and enhancement of formal gardens, lawns, borders, vegetable gardens, parkland and woodland areas.
- Ensure all work is completed to a high standard, within agreed timescales and in line with good environmental practices.
- Operate machinery and equipment safely and appropriately, including undertaking basic maintenance and reporting faults when required.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE and safe working practices at all times.
- Previous experience in gardening, grounds maintenance or estate gardening.
- A genuine passion for horticulture and outdoor work.
- Good plant knowledge and an appreciation for historic gardens and landscapes.
- A proactive, hands‑on and hardworking approach.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering high standards.
- A willingness to undertake training and gain relevant qualifications where required.
- Experience operating garden machinery and equipment safely and responsibly.
