Laboratory Assistant

Laboratory Assistant – Helen Keller Hospital

Provides technical support to the lab by receiving and processing requisitions/specimens and performing specified lab tests according to standard operating procedures. Manages specimens referred to outside laboratories for testing, responds to phone requests, and enters test data into the computer. Cleans laboratory equipment and glassware and operates in environments that may involve hazardous materials during the workday.

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Previous work experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant strongly preferred.

• Completes hospital and departmental orientation.
• Ability to work in a stressful, fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to remember multiple procedures and policies.
• Willingness to work irregular hours with varying assignments.
• Understanding of safe work practices.
• Must have good communication skills.
• Absolute integrity and accuracy in the identification and reporting of numbers and names.
