Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Orthopedic Surgeon to fill a vital locum position at a small rural hospital with a level 3 trauma center. This opportunity offers hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment, with the chance to make a meaningful difference in a community that values quality healthcare. The role requires active hospital-based practice, not recent residency, and involves full general orthopedic coverage, including managing higher-level patient transfers.

The position begins January 17, 2026, with a commitment to ongoing, flexible coverage.

Required Skills:

• Valid California medical license with current credentials
• CA fluoroscopy certification
• Proven experience in orthopedic surgery, including trauma management
• Ability to perform full general orthopedic procedures
• Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Active hospital privileges and no negative credentialing issues or NPDB reports

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with Cerner EMR system
• Prior experience in rural healthcare settings
• Additional trauma or emergency surgical experience
• Bilingual skills helpful in community engagement

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
• At least 2 years of post-residency practice in orthopedic surgery
• Prior locum or hospital-based surgical experience preferred but not mandatory

Other Requirements:

• Willingness to work on a 24/7 schedule, including holidays and call responsibilities
• Ability to fly into Sacramento airport and undertake a two-hour drive to Red Bluff
• Commit to credentialing process which may take up to 30 days
• No required travel or off-site commitments beyond facility-based duties
