Organic Materials Program Coordinator

About the Department:

The Agency strives to provide information related to Tehama County’s solid waste programs, plans, elements and progress towards reducing the amount of waste entering the landfill, and conserving natural resources while protecting human health and the environment.

Under the direction of the Agency Manager, develops, organizes, monitors and enforces organic waste reduction and recycling programs, and generates reports on organic waste reduction and recycling programs. Provides administrative service at the Tehama County/Red Bluff Landfill in support of the Tehama County Solid Waste Management Agency (JPA).

• Develops, plans, coordinates and revises organic waste reduction and diversion community awareness, monitoring and enforcement programs.
• Initiates contact and works with citizens, businesses and public entities to ensure compliance with organic waste reduction and diversion regulations and related local ordinances, contracts and policies.
• Supervises and assesses the quality and accuracy of organic waste reduction and diversion program operations, including performing and overseeing waste audits, and assists with daily tasks as needed.

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with Bachelor’s Degree or higher in environmental science, geography, engineering, chemistry, or physics, or a related field.
• Three (3) years of journey level experience in developing and implementing environmental and/or public health programs, demonstrating significant responsibility in the areas of solid waste and pollution reduction, public outreach, and grant management.
• One (1) year of progressive responsibility supervising or providing direction to subordinate staff is preferred.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

• Requires a valid California driver’s license.
• Requires 24-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard training within six (6) months of employment.

The department currently has one (1) vacancy. In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for an Organic Materials Program Coordinator, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.

New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
