The Role

Reporting to the Crew Supervisor, the Labourer is a key member of the field team responsible for supporting construction activities across all phases of ROHL projects. This is a hands‑on, physically demanding role that requires a strong work ethic, safety focus, and the ability to work effectively as part of a fast‑moving utility and telecommunications construction crew. Labourers play an essential role in keeping projects moving by assisting with site preparation, material handling, equipment support, traffic control, and general construction activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Load, unload, and move tools, equipment, and construction materials safely and efficiently throughout the worksite.
  • Assist operators with spotting and signaling to ensure safe movement and placement of equipment and materials.
  • Perform grading and site preparation tasks, including shoveling, raking, leveling, and clearing terrain.
  • Operate small equipment and tools such as tampers, pneumatic hammers, vibrators, and skid steers (where qualified).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and production‑ready work area by removing debris and keeping sites free of hazards.
  • Set up, adjust, and remove traffic control devices including cones, barricades, and signage in accordance with approved traffic control plans.
  • Direct traffic safely when required to protect crew members, the public, and equipment operations.
  • Support crews during mobilization, demobilization, and daily site setup activities.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices at all times.
  • Participate in daily tailboard meetings, safety briefings, and site inspections.
  • Work closely with supervisors and the Safety Department to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Conduct work safely, reliably, and productively as part of a crew environment.
  • Maintain a strong attendance record and arrive prepared for physically demanding outdoor work.
  • Demonstrate respect, professionalism, and accountability when working with coworkers, clients, and the public.
  • Take direction well and contribute positively to overall crew performance.
What You Bring
  • Previous experience in construction, utility, telecommunications, or civil infrastructure environments is considered an asset.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and small construction equipment (experience with skid steers or similar equipment is an asset).
  • Strong awareness of workplace safety and ability to follow safe work procedures at all times.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work as part of a crew and follow direction from supervisors and equipment operators.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to punctuality and attendance.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, overtime, and travel when required by project needs.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment in accordance with job demands.

Compensation Details

Hourly wage range: $21–26.
