Artist in Residence – Red Deer Players Society
Job Title: Artist in Residence
Organization: RDPS
Location: Red Deer
Role Type: Volunteer Contract with Honoraria
Compensation: Honorarium $1,000 – $2,000 based on project scope, determined in collaboration with the artist.
Job Overview: The Artist in Residence will lead or contribute to one or more projects across our season, designing, producing, directing or staging new works and delivering workshops or mentorship. Artists will attend board meetings as non‑voting members, participate in company discussions, and engage with partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and implement program offerings to support the theatre’s artistic vision.
- Propose and oversee one project and one community learning opportunity in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Nurture relationships with local artists, actors, directors and key community members to promote new talent.
- Ensure programming aligns with the theatre’s budget and operational capabilities.
- Represent the theatre in the community, connecting with schools, arts organizations and other groups.
- Assist the ED with special events, talkbacks or outreach programs to deepen community involvement.
Qualifications:
- Experience in directing, producing or working in theatre arts; community theatre experience a plus.
- Leadership, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor creatives.
- Knowledge of theatre production, including directing, casting, stagecraft and technical elements.
- Education in Theatre Arts or related field is encouraged but not required.
- Commitment to community engagement and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for artistic expression.
- Provide a 1–2 project pitch focusing on: (a) the project to produce this season with details, collaborators and practical solutions; (b) a workshop to offer the Red Deer Theatre community with specific techniques and activities.
