Job Description
:
Full‑time TERM Instructional Resource Teacher, Mobile Central High School, Mobile. Duties to commence September 8, 2026, until June 25, 2027.
As an Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT), you will support a diverse range of learners by developing and delivering individualized programming. Your work will focus on meeting the unique needs of students through enrichment, academic intervention, social‑emotional development, and the building of accessibility and adaptive skills.
Successful candidates will be able to engage professionally with colleagues, families and communities; demonstrate the planning and implementation of effective and responsive teaching and learning practices; provide evidence of how to shape a safe and positive learning environment for students and families; demonstrate a love of learning and an ability to build learner and leadership capacity; provide evidence and understanding of the impact of effective assessment practices.
If selected for an interview, candidates should be prepared to speak about their experience and demonstrated competencies in relation to the 7 Standards of Practice for Instructional Resource Teachers (outlined below):

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
:
- Foundations of Special Education – understands and applies knowledge of the foundations of special education.
- Development and Characteristics of Learners – understands the development and characteristics of learners.
- Educational Assessment – understands the educational assessment process and uses a variety of assessment strategies to support the development of students.
- Planning Instruction – understands the diversity of students, strengths and needs and applies this knowledge when planning instruction.
- Delivering Instruction – understands the diversity of students, strengths and needs and applies this knowledge when delivering instruction.
- Learning Environment – helps create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, independence and self‑motivation.
- Collaborative Partnerships – understands the importance of building collaborative partnerships to enhance student learning.
- Reflective Practice – continually evaluates his/her practice and actively seeks professional growth opportunities to enhance student learning.
Minimum Qualifications
:
- Bachelor of Education
- Bachelor of Special Education or Equivalency
- NL Teaching Certificate – Level IV or higher
- Equivalencies will be considered
Annual teacher salary scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.
